Space-time Lens Choreographer

The avant-garde Maya Deren who brought dance into the film and used body movements as the main object in the film,was a heavyweight who could not be ignored.With her knowledge about literature and poetry as well as her passion towards dance,she embarked on the journey of producing experimental films.She arranged the content of the film from the poet’s unique perspective,explored the meaning of the lens as a dancer,interacted the camera with the dancer,and fully integrated the art of dance with film technology to form a distinctive shooting vocabulary,create a surreal and spectacular dance image,and add new shooting ideas and shooting vocabulary to dance film.This paper takes Maya Deren,a famous American avant-garde experimental filmmaker,as the research object,deeply analyzes her life experience,works and creative thoughts,finds out the techniques and characteristics of her works by the means of case study,induction and classification,etc.,and summarize her prominent contribution to dance films.The paper is divided into three chapters.The first chapter is "Maya Deren’s Life Experience",which introduces her life and experiences in detail and reveals the influence of her life experience and cultural background on her artistic thought of film shooting.Chapter two is "Maya Deren’s Shooting Skills and Creative Expression".which summarizes and arranges her films about dance created from the 1940 s to 1950 s.Through the detailed discussion of four representative works("A Study in Choreography for Camera","Ritual in Transfigured Time","Meditation on Violence" and "The Very Eye of Night")and lens analysis to sum up her shooting skills and creative ideas,it presents her unique shooting skills and creation perspective.The third chapter is "Maya Deren’s Contribution to the Dance Film",synthesizing the contents of the first two chapters,and summarizing Maya Deren’s outstanding contribution to artistic creation.The exploration of Maya Deren’s creative experiments on dance films and the impact of this exploration on the whole art form of dance photography.
