Alice Walker is a famous African-American woman writer.Her works deeply reflect the survival status of black women in the context of racial discrimination and gender discrimination,which has aroused widespread repercussions from people from all walks of life.The long-form epistolary novel The Color Purple is her masterpiece.With this novel,the author became the first black woman in American history to win the Pulitzer Prize for Literature and the National Book Prize.In 1985,Hollywood director Steven Spielberg put The Color Purple into the movie with the same name.The film won 11 Oscar nominations.In this article,the author compares the films and novels in The Color Purple movie,and from the perspective of interdisciplinary research,through the comparison of plots and characters,he finds that the hegemonic ideology hidden behind the adaptation.The paper consists of three parts.The first part compares and analyzes the differences in the plot between the movie The Color Purple and the novel.It mainly includes three aspects: the deletion,addition and alteration of the plot of the novel.The second part mainly analyzes the differences between the film The Color Purple and the novel in the shaping of characters.This part includes two points.The first point compares and analyzes the difference between the female and the female characters in the films and novels,including Celie and Shug.And Sofia's three female images;the second point compares and analyzes the differences between male and female characters in films and novels,including Albert and Harper.The third part focuses on analyzing the reasons for the differences in the formation of films and novels.Due to differences in the performance of narration,audience groups,and individual life experiences,the major adaptations in the film are due to the director's Cultural hegemony.The three aspects of the novel's adaptation of the novel include the movie's adaptation of African culture,homosexuality,and religion.The success of the film precisely shows that the thought that the author wants to express in the novel The Color Purple is difficult to accept in mainstream American culture.The adaptation of the film can be described as meaningful.Its purpose is to cater to the white American mainstream culture...
