in recent years, disaster events happen frequently.Earthquakes and tsunamis bring great pain to our residents. At the same time, they also bring huge economic losses to our disaster areas. After the reconstruction,it is an important aspect to revitalize the economy and stimulate consumption in the disaster area. However, after the disaster events, people who have experienced the disaster events or experienced the death of their loved ones have changed their consumption desire. Therefore, the study about post-disaster consumption desire and its psychological mechanism is significant for the government to formulate related policies, guide consumption and promote the economic development of the disaster area.Referring to past literature, western researches show that after catastrophic events, the general consumption desire shows an upward trend, and the death defense is the reason for this change. However, only few relevant studies have been found in China. The present studies in China show: firstly, consumption desire declines then rises after experiencing disaster events, and it is also considered that death defense is the reason for this change.Secondly, after the disaster events happened, there are still a large number of individuals who do not experience disaster, but their relatives were killed in disaster events. The past research about these individuals’ short-term and long term consumption desire is not enough.Thirdly, western researches and domestic researches all consider death defense is the internal mechanism of the change of individual consumption desire, but still lack of empirical studies. Thus, this research is designed. This study mainly includes two studies: study 1 use self-complied consumption scale to test consumption desire of who experiencing disaster events without family members killed in disaster events and whose relatives killed in disaster events without experiencing disaster events.Study 1 investigates impact of experiencing disaster events and their relatives’ death on middle school students’ long-term consumption desire.2(experiencing disaster, not experiencing disaster)*2(family member killed, family member not killed)experiment was designed.456 middle school students of Mianyang were selected as subjects, and the consumption desire scale were self-compiled.Using the method independent samples T test and factor analysis of variance.Study 2 was designed in order to investigate how death defense impact consumption desire of students who have different experience.4(experiencing disaster while family members died, experiencing disaster events without family members dying, not experienced earthquake but family member died and not experienced earthquake without relatives died)*3(conscious defense, unconscious defense,no defense)experiment was designed.Subjects includes 456 middle school students in Mianyang, the most affected city during “Wenchuan” earthquake. The method of multivariate analysis of variance and factor analysis of variance were used. The results show that disaster events and family members were killed in the earthquake led to the individual long-term consumption desire rising The results are as follow:(1)Individuals’ long-term consumption desire after experiencing disaster events shows a rising trend.(2)Individuals’ long-term consumption desire after family member loss shows a rising trend.(3)Conscious defense makes the individuals’ consumption desire level drops, unconscious behavior makes individuals’ consumption desire rise.
