The acquisition of English past tense has been a difficult problem for the L2 learners,so it becomes a hot topic in the linguistic research.A great many researches about the acquisition of English past tense among middle school students have been done,but little has been concerned about its interface on syntax and morphology.Therefore,it is necessary for this thesis to investigate native Chinese Middle School students' acquisition of the English past tense,and put forward some teaching suggestions.180 students from Zhangzhou ZhengXing School are asked to take part in the test of a questionnaire that consists of 44 verbs,38 of which are regular and 8 are unregular.And the subjects are divided into three groups,each of which includes 60 students and they are junior three,senior one and senior two high school students,who respectively finish the tests of the past tense task,the act of which analyzed Double Factor Variance Analysis,MONOVA and Paired Samples T Test.The study aims to investigate the following questions:(1)What's the difference among different grade subjects in the acquisition of the different forms of the past tense?(2)Which forms of the past tense can be better acquired by different grade subjects?(3)Can different grade subjects acquire English past tense in syntax/morphology interface?The following are the discoveries:(1)Different grade subjects are different in the acquisition of the different forms of the past tense.(2)Different grades subjects are better in acquiring the past tense with-ed form of regular verbs than those of irregular verbs.(3)Different grades can't easily acquire English past tense in syntax/morphology interface.Therefore,in the process of teaching,English teachers should explain and compare the different forms and usage of the past tense,and provide students with enough exercises and intensive training in time.It will enable students to overcome the problem of syntax or morphology interface.And students will better acquire the past tense...
