The A.D.C.(Amateur Dramatic Club of Shanghai)is an amateur drama group founded by Shanghai Westerners since the opening of Shanghai.The A.D.C was established at the end of 1866,and was not dissolved until 1952,during which,there were no fewer than 309 performances.The A.D.C.is the longest performing theater group in Shanghai with the largest number of performances.It is also the original builder and long-term management of the Lyceum Theater.Studying the A.D.C.has positive significance for researching the spread of early Western drama in Shanghai and exploring the beginning of early Chinese spoken drama.This thesis first reviews the history of the A.D.C.,researching the formation,duration,and the Lyceum Theatre.Second,this thesis analyzes the performance of the Shanghai A.D.C.troupe about its performance objectives,stage art and repertoire.Finally,on the basis of the former two studies,taking the conditions of China's local theatre into consideration,this thesis studies the A.D.C.'s influence on Chinese drama ecology on aspects of the establishment of the concept of early Chinese modern theater,the formation of the theatrical market,and as well as the renovation of early Chinese modern theatrical concept.
