As China's documentary film progresses toward the "public era" in depth, some new phenomena, new ideas, and new highlights have emerged in succession, and they have gradually precipitated and solidified, forming a pattern of an industry in a new development period.CDRC describes it as the "new normal" for Chinese documentary. In this context,it shows the call for documentary research. In this paper, case analysis, text analysis, and comparative analysis are used to analyze the "interview" of Bowling for Columbine and Under the Dome. This paper is divided into five chapters. In the first chapter,it mainly summarizes the research background, research issues, research significance, and research methods of this paper. In the second chapter,it is a literature review. In this section,it reviews the research status of documentary, especially investigative documentary, the interviewing studies, and the related research of the two case works. In the third chapter,it is an analysis of the characteristics of the interview of Bowling for Columbine.Through text analysis,it finds that observations in Bowling for Columbine show great emphasis on rhetorical expression. Its purpose is to express, even enhance the view of the film. The design of the interview questions varies from person to person, and the conversion or maintenance of topics are adaptable. The use of non-verbal symbols in Bowling for Columbine reveals a preference for body language, and it minimizes the space and distance of interviews as much as possible. In the fourth chapter,it analyzes the characteristics of the interview of Under the Dome. The film use a lot of experiential observations to obtain factual materials.During its language interviews,it focused on the interviewing clues, through continuous investigation, sought to obtain a truth which is comprehensive and objective. And it shows different opinions in the interview so that the audience can make their own judgments. As for its non-verbal symbols, there are some outstanding characteristics such as "concerned eyes" and"forward-leaning posture".The last chapter is the conclusion and discussion of this paper.it summarizes the characteristics of this two films' interviews from the macro aspect;and it also summarizes their similarities and differences. On this basis,it tries to sum up an interview framework for investigative documentary, and strives to make it universal.
