With the increasingly frequent communications between China and foreign countries, interpretation has been playing a more and more important role as a cross-cultural communicative behavior.Consecutive interpretation,as a kind of interpretation,is widely used. This report focuses on the simulated interpretation guided by the Interpretive Theory and takes one episode –The Future of Journalism of a typical American interview entitled Murrow Interview as the case of this consecutive interpretation.Interpretive Theory, first proposed by Danica Seleskovitch,is derived from France in the late 1960 s.This theory has been widely used in the practice and teaching of interpretation since its appearance, which provides great help to the development of interpretation.Interpretive Theory believes that interpretation is an act of communication and its purpose is to convey meanings properly. In order to realize this purpose, interpreters have to paraphrase the source language with the help of cognitive supplement. The triangular model of Interpretive Theory divides the interpretation process into three stages, namely, comprehension, deverbalization and re-expression.The form of Murrow Interview is face to face interview. This interview is with fast speaking speed and colloquial characteristics. To interpret the interview content into authentic, fluent and easy-to-understand Chinese language has become the priority of this simulated interpretation. Therefore, under the guidance of Interpretive Theory, this report focuses on the application of interpretation strategies such as amplification, omission, adaptation and explanation,so as to realize the goal of improving interpretation and communication qualities and effects. The author hopes that this report can provide a reference for interpretation majoring students.
