In 1558,Queen Mary I of England died and the Tudor throne was inherited by her half sister Elizabeth. The new Queen not only had to maintain the legitimacy of her throne, but also needs to deal with threats from the Catholic forces at home and abroad in order to stabilize her dominance. This article, taking the religious settlement in the early period of Elizabeth's rule as the breakthrough point of studying Puritanism, uses banning the Prophesyings in 1577 as a starting point for the transformation of the Queen's Puritan policy.By combing the main contents of the Puritan policy in the early(1558-1577)and the later period(1577-1603)stages,the paper expounds the basic characteristics of the Puritan policy in the period of Elizabeth, and makes a proper assessment. The full text is divided into three parts:introduction, main body and conclusion,in which the main body includes three chapters. The first chapter describes the background of Elizabeth I Puritan Policy.Proceeding from the political interests.Elizabeth made great efforts to carry out religious settlement through the promulgation of the Act of Supremacy,Uniformity,Thirty-nine Articles, thus creating an internal and external environment for peaceful development and avoiding stimulating the Catholic forces at home and abroad. The second chapter expounds the Puritan policy of Elizabeth government in the early and later periods and the reasons for its transformation. In the early days of Elizabeth's reign, the Tudor government tolerated Puritanism, gave the Puritans freedom of assembly and speech, and sought cooperation and support with them.Elizabeth's late rule turned to the suppression of Puritan movements, such as strict restrictions on puritanical propaganda, controlling of puritanical leaders, and the enactment of laws An Act to Retain the Oueen' s Majesty's.Subjects in Obedience. The reason is that puritanic forces gradually expanded and put forward their own political demands, conflicting with Elizabeth's own interests.Elizabeth no longer needed the power of Puritanism to press Catholicism because her position was more stable. With the irreconcilable difference between Puritanism and Anglicanism in the doctrines,Elizabeth I had to choose to suppress Puritanism. The third chapter mainly analyzes the influence of Elizabeth's Puritan policy from the three dimensions of kingship, state and religion.Elizabeth I suppressed the Puritan movement, which not only maintained her authority as a despotic monarch, but also safeguarded the autocratic monarchy itself. In addition, the suppression of Puritanism avoided the split of England thought, strengthened the national cohesion and strengthened the nation state. With the help of this policy, the status of the state education as a unified ideology in England was unshakable, and the Puritanism was forced into the underground activities, thus completing the religious unity on the surface. To sum up,this paper draws two basic conclusions:First,Elizabeth's Puritan policy was an important part of the governance of the Queen's reign.Although it was different,it did not deviate from the keynote of the Tudor's religious reform and compromise set by Henry VIII.Secondly,in the nearly half century of Elizabeths rule,England's internal stability, economic recovery and development were the same. The overcoming of Spain and the elimination of the threat of international Catholicism have benefited from.the Queen's proper handling of religious issues, especially the practical Puritan policy she adopted.
