Max Weber(1864-1820)is the greatest thinker of the Wilhelm era in Germany. He was both an academic scholar and a politician with political ambition.More importantly,Weber is a steadfast nationalist. His nationalist ideology occupies a fundamental position in his academic and political theories. This article takes Weber nationalism as its object and aims at restoring the original appearance of his nationalism.First of all,we have to explore the source of Weber's nationalism,to discuss the German realistic political environment in the William era and the nationalism(such as German cultural nationalism)in German history, which made Weber's nationalism ideologically expandable.Immediately afterwards,he returned to Weberian nationalism itself, combing the main content of Weber's nationalism in its early and late periods, and then analyzing the characteristics of Weber's nationalism. In 1915,by the influence of the war process,Weber's thought of nationalism was divided into two stages:the early stage and the later stage. In the early stage,On the issue of Polish culture invading eastern regions,Weber focus on the problem,"how to maintain ethnic purity".And on this basis he put forward the appeal for the status of"great power".In the later stage,Weber relied on the theory of the type of powers and focused on changing the political status of Germany in order to establish a democratic politics that is more suitable for the authority of the charisma-type ruling authority.Weber's nationalist ideology is caring for humanism. He used the theory of"individual ethnic identity" to distinguish the concept of ethnicity and nationality, interpreted the meaning of modern ethnicity with an open, inclusive attitude. It proved that Weber's nationalist ideology as a whole is a rational political ideology. In addition,Weber integrated liberal thoughts into his nationalist thoughts. And he discussed the ethnic members' rights of ethnic rights and the freedom rights. This made his nationalist thoughts humanistic. However, there are inherent contradictions in Weber's nationalist ideology.Due to the influence of the national chauvinism,Weber advocated the theory of racial superiority and confined the humanistic concern in the nationalist thought to the German nationality. This supremacy of the nation-state,which is full of narrow consciousness,is the general tendency of the German ideological world at the end of the 19th century. It should be given a rational critique.
