Krashen,a famous linguist,believes that language acquisition is not only influenced by comprehensible input but also by learners' affection which acts as a filter.Rogers,one of the representative figures of the Humanistic Psychology,also holds that affective factors play an important role in learning process.He lays stress on the importance of creating suitable academic atmosphere which helps learners feel comfortable and facilitate the fusion of cognition with emotion.The practice shows that students of vocational colleges who are faced with the pressure of learning and employment,to some degree,have English reading anxiety.Moreover,they cannot use English reading strategies frequently.By consulting CNKI net,the writer found that there were lots of research achievements on English reading anxiety or English reading strategies.However,it was fewer to choose Vocational College Students as research subjects to study the correlations among English reading anxiety,reading strategies and reading performance.That is why the writer conducts the study.On the basis of previous studies,the thesis adopts the theories of Krashen's Affective Filter Hypothesis and Rogers' Learning and Education Theory of Humanism.With the methods of literature,questionnaire,selecting 207 vocational college students from one of Zhangzhou Vocational Colleges as research subjects,this study attempts to investigate the following three questions:(1)What is the level of students' English reading anxiety?(2)What is the level of students' frequency of using English reading strategies?(3)Is there a correlation among vocational college students' English reading anxiety,reading strategies and reading performance? If there is,what is the correlation among them?The results show that:(1)The mean score of English Reading Anxiety Scale from research subjects is 3.1374,which is at a medium level.And the mean score of four dimensions in the Scale from high to low,in turn,is Reading Text Anxiety(3.3370),Reading confidence(3.2541),Language Comprehension Anxiety(3.0419)and Dyslexia(2.9549).All of them are at a medium level.(2)The mean score of English Reading Strategy Scale from research subjects is 3.2347,which is at a medium level.And the mean score of six dimensions in the Scale from high to low,in turn,is Skimming(3.3807),Scanning(3.3169),Prediction(3.3140),Word-attack Skill(3.2476),Inferences(3.0604)and Structure Analysis(3.0314).All of them are at a medium level.(3)There is significant correlation among English reading anxiety,reading strategy and reading performance.And there is significant negative correlation between reading strategy and reading anxiety(r=-0.492,P<0.01).There is also significant negative correlation between reading anxiety and reading performance(r=-0.466,P<0.01),and four dimensions in English Reading Anxiety Scale significantly have linear effect on reading performance.There is significant positive correlation between reading strategy and reading performance(r=0.425,P<0.01),and only the Word-attack Skill dimension significantly has linear effect on reading performance,the others have no statistically significance.In order to lessen students' English reading anxiety and increase their frequency of using English reading strategy,some relevant suggestions on English teaching for vocational colleges will be put forward,such as easing students' reading anxiety,cultivating students' reading strategies,creating comfortable classroom atmosphere.
