An Action Research On "questioning-exploring" Teaching Model In Senior Three English Revision Classes

The school where the author works has been applying a kind of group cooperative learning---“Questioning-Exploring” Teaching Model since 2013.It consists of four steps:questioning and self-exploring;solving questions cooperatively;re-exploring deeply;extending and applying.In the current English classes,teachers have already mastered this kind of teaching model.In the use of this teaching model,however,some doubts popped out.For instance: Is it suitable for the exhibition and the evaluation steps to be simplified and even to be left out? Can the exhibition and evaluation step be extended to other parts in class? Can the teacher's guidance be represented ahead?It is well acknowledged that an ideal teaching model should facilitate teaching practice and improve the teaching efficiency.The teachers,while applying a teaching model,should use it flexibly and innovatively.By means of action research,the author tries to make some adjustments in the present “Questioning-Exploring” Teaching Model to see how the modified model makes the class efficiency higher in the exhibition and the evaluation step.In this thesis,the following three questions are to be answered: 1.What problems are there in the application of the “Questioning-Exploring” Teaching Model to the Senior Three English Revision Classes? 2.How to improve these questions? 3.What function can the “QEPS” teaching model help improve the teaching effectiveness and furthermore enhance students' grades?The author first explores the causes of low class effectiveness through a questionnaire,an interview and some class observations.It turns out that the low group learning effectiveness leads to the low effectiveness of Revision Classes and teacher's guidance has some hysteresis.Considering this,the author makes the following improvements: the old“Questioning-Exploring” teaching model is simplified into “QEPS”(question-explore-practice-summarize)model.First,the students raise questions and the teacher classify them;then let the students are grouped to work together,and after the cooperation,the students have exhibition-evaluation part according to the number of the questions as well as the difficulty of them under teacher's guidance.If there are only a few simple easy questions,the teacher lets the students settle these questions by themselves;if there are many questions,the teacher helps finish the task.In this way,the students can learn a lot and save them more classtime for revision.Therefore,“QEPS” teaching model can have its advantages in this type of class.On the basis of the analysis of the questionnaires,interviews and classroom observations throughout the research,it is concluded that the “QEPS” teaching model is very popular among students,which can help students rebuild self-confidence in study,arouse their initiative and enthusiasm,gradually develop students' group cooperative learning ability and improve their academic performance and students can perform appropriately in the exhibition-evaluation procedure.Meanwhile,“Question-Exploring” teaching model also requires the teachers to promote professional development and improve education and research ability so that the real cooperative and exploring classes play its role in Revision Classes.
