Since its publication,E.M.Forster's masterpiece A Passage to India has drawn wide and long-standing critical attention, but mainly with regard to its colonialism or Indian Orientalism. This thesis aims to shed some new light upon Forster's unique homosexual dialectic reflected in the novel. In the part of Introduction, the paper presents a brief portraiture of Forster and the novel A Passage to India, particularly on its strong homosexual undertone and relevant academic literature in the past,as well as the adopted research method and the object of this paper;in the Chapter One,the paper focuses on the covert homo-romance and male friendship projected in the novel, demonstrating its central and foregrounded status in essence, and then predicts a broader Forsterian sexuality;the Chapter Two then examines the bi-sexual relations in the novel, covering different female and male roles and different sexual patterns including the triangular relationship between Aziz,Adela and Fielding, and another triangular relationship between Aziz,Mrs Moore and Fielding, discussing the social aspect of Forster' homosexual dialectic and how Forster's homosexual teleology fails in the novel and eventually proposing Forster's preference for humanistic connection to the sexes and sexualities;in the Chapter Three, the paper focuses on the image of homosexualized India, relating it to the private aspect of Forster's homosexual dialectic, such as the intimate homoerotic space, the primitivistic naturalism, the psychosexual catharsis, the metaphysical justification, the mystic empowerment, the philosophical equilibrium and the religious transcendence, etc.;the last part of Conclusion presents the final verdict of the paper, with due recognition of all the possible shortcomings and inadequacies, and provides practical advice and novel ideas for further academic study.
