Innovation Of Poetic Rhythm In Marianne Moore's Early Poems

Marianne Moore is one of the greatest modern poets in the history of American literature.Moore has almost won every modern poetry award,and has great reputation.Her poetry is famous for tremendous artistic value.Moore has unique characteristic in poetic creation.Her poetry has subtle description and delicate narration.She has made modernistic innovation in poetry creation,and offers a different way to appreciate her poems.From 1924 to 1944 is the early period of Moore's creation.In this period,she begins to experiment on poetic creation.And she creates innovative poetic rhythm.The features of poetic rhythm in her early poems are:line-end rhyme on unaccented syllables,monosyllabic line and syllabic stanza.Her innovation shows typical modernistic feature.The innovation in poetic rhythm brings great changes to the poetic expression.The aural,visual and linguistic expressions in Moore's early poems are unique.The thesis will conclude the features of innovative poetic rhythm in Moore's early poems;study on the function of the poetic rhythm;and finally analyze the poetic ideal which the innovative poetic rhythm stands for.This thesis has five parts:introduction,the main parts of three body chapters and the conclusion.The first chapter is the introduction.In this chapter,the life of Moore and her early poetic career would be introduced.The literature review on Moore's literary studies would be made.The thesis task and structure would be also explained.The second chapter is about the innovative poetic rhythm in Moore's early poems.Based on the elaborate analysis of Moore's early poems,the representative features of Moore's innovative poetic rhythm would be concluded.The aesthetic proposition of Moore would be illustrated.The third chapter is about the function of poetic rhythm.The innovative poetic rhythm brings great changes in audio,visual and linguistic aspects of the poems.The fourth chapter discusses on Moore's poetic ideal of the "Genuine".The ideal of the"Genuine" offers a different way to appreciate Moore's poems.The fifth chapter is the conclusion of this thesis.
