In recent years,teaching English in elementary school has received much attention,and grammar teaching has been controversial.At first,when English entered elementary school,the teachers only taught grammar knowledge of words and sentence patterns,and cut the usage situation of the language,resulting in the occurrence of "dumb English".The late 70 s communicative approach was introduced,and teaching in the elementary school raised a hot wave which is given priority to with communicative teaching,has caused many students sharply lower accuracy in spoken and written English.In the face of this situation,the author tries to find ways to neutralize the above extreme situation and carry out the practice,thus focusing on the theory of focus on form.Long for the first time in 1991 proposed the focus on the form of teaching theory.The concept both focus on the meaning of language communication and the language form,which makes up the defect of the one-sided focus on meaning or form.Therefore,this theory is deeply concerned by the linguistic scholars,and many scholars and experts have made specific explanations and additions to theoretical and practical researches.In a second language study abroad,a lot of about the study of the form have achieved fruitful results,but in China,only to stay in the university and high school grammar teaching.As a first-line teacher in elementary English,the author chooses the teaching theory of focus on form to guide the teaching of English grammar in primary school.The purpose of this paper is to focus on the form of theoretical research combined with elementary school English grammar teaching,using the theory as the elementary school English grammar teaching guiding ideology,to explore and study the validity of the theory in the elementary school English senior class,to find a solution to the problem of the elementary school English two extreme cases through questionnaire survey,experimental research and interview investigation,validation of focus on form in the elementary school English grammar teaching is more effective than general way of teaching.This study chooses the English teachers and the students of elementary school in Jianye District,Nanjing City as the research objects,the questionnaire survey of teachers,understanding the present situation of the elementary school English grammar teaching,experimental study on students selected from grade five as the research object,two grades of similar class as the experimental class,one class to another class as that in comparative classes.The experimental class uses the teaching theory of focus on form to guide the grammar teaching,and the class uses the normal teaching method.In the fifth grade at the beginning of the second semester,grammar knowledge of two classes of students learning situation before the test,then using different ways of grammar teaching,in the final test for two classes of students grammar learning,after analyzing the results of the contrast tests.After the experiment,the author conducted a random interview survey on teachers and students,through the class teacher and the students' feedback.Then,the author draws the conclusion:focus on the form of teaching theory is adopted to improve the grammar teaching with the biggest benefit,improve students'understanding of grammar knowledge effectively and using the effectiveness of this building is more popular with the students in the classroom and more effective than the general way of teaching.
