Alice Munro,a Canadian woman writer, often chooses ordinary women as the protagonist, and explains her philosophical thinking in the description of life fragments. The ethical study has been on the edge in the study of Munro's novels, most of them focus on the discussion of marriage ethics, and makes less analysis of the ethical relationship of mother and daughter. As a collection of short stories,The Love of a Good Woman was published in 1998 and won the National Book Critics Circle Award and the Giller Prize. In The Love of a Good Woman, the relationship between mother and daughter has been discussed in detail, and it provides the possibility of a new critical perspective to be carefully studied and excavated. This article will be mainly based on the three novels,My Mother's Dream,Rich as Stink and Save the Reaper, which have concentrated discussion of this relationship, and using the method of ethical literary criticism, combining spatial theories in narrative and the theory of close reading. This article will make a preliminary definition of the ethical identity of the characters, explore the underlying reasons for their involvement in the ethical dilemma, and reveal the ethical implications under their ethical choice.Paper includes three parts:The introduction part, mainly introduced Alice Munro's life, create conditions and work content, analyzed and combed the domestic and foreign research status about Alice Munro.the selected topic significance and research methods are put forward. The second part is the body of the paper, which is divided into four chapters. The first three chapters are composed of three sections, and the last chapter consists of two sections. The first chapter mainly discusses the lack of ethical identities between Gil and the baby,Rosemarie and Karina,Eve and Sophie.Having undergone a dramatic change of ethical identity,Gil has a big gap with her newly born daughter; The vague ethical identities of Rosemarie and Karina are analyzed in the second quarter. The third section analyzes Eve and Sophie's escape from ethical identity. The second chapter mainly discusses the ethical dilemma caused by the misplaced mother-daughter relationship, such as Gil's double barriers, the dual test of Karina and Eve's trauma of the intergenerational mother-daughter relationship. The third chapter mainly discusses the ultimate ethical choice between mother and daughter.Gil and the baby choose to return to original sentiments,Karina tries to rebuild ethical order, and Rosemarie finally choose to return to the mother's ethical status, and Eve choose to accept the status of the relationship between mother and daughter. The fourth chapter mainly discusses the three paradigms for the relationship between mother and daughter, the commonalities of three pairs of mother-daughter relationships are identified, mainly consists of the choice of mother's ethical identity, the absence of father's ethical identity and the appearance of"substitute father/mother".From the phased characteristics of mother-daughter relationship, the three models and the spatial representation, the differences between three pairs of mother-daughter relationship are analyzed. The third part is the conclusion, mainly sorts out Munro's change in writing mother-daughter relationship, analyzes the autobiography color, social background and narrative strategy in the process of writing, thus manifests the significance of Munro's ethical writing.
