Report On The Translation Of English In Thermal Energy And Power Engineering

This is a practical report on the English-Chinese translation of engineering English.The translation material of this report is selected from the book English in Thermal Energy and Power Engineering.This book is the blueprint in the field of thermal power major.The information contained in this text must be mastered by the employees in the area of expertise.But this text has not yet been completly translated into Chinese,which caused great inconvenience to a large number of relevant people.Based on this,the translation of this text is especially important.Taking part two of the book English in Thermal Energy and Power Engineering as an example,this paper analyzes and summarizes the English-Chinese translation methods and strategies of this book.Under the guidance of the "three rules" in skopos theory,that is the skpos rule,the coherence rulee and the fidelityrule,the corresponding translation strategies and methods are put forward for the difficulties in translation,such as the translation of nominalized structures,passive sentences and long sentences.For the translation of nominalized structures,the skill of conversion is adopted.That is to say,the nominalized structures in English is converted into the corresponding subject-predicate structures or verb-object structures in Chinese to meet the target language readers' expression habit;on the translation of the passive sentences,under the guidance of the "three rules",the passive sentences in English are translated into the corresponding Chinese passive sentences or active sentences,so that the translation is smooth and natural and easy to understand;for the translation of the long sentences,the methods of synchronizing,reversing and division are used to meet the logical order and thinking habits of target readers.Under the guidance of skopos theory,the translation of the book English in Thermal Energy and Power Engineering has been completed.And two versions of translation are compared and analyzed in the case analysis.Version 1 is the translation without theory guidance,while version 2 is under the guidance of skopos theory.The results of comparative analysis show that version 2 is not only coherent and faithful to the original text,but also conforms to the target readers' language habits.Obviously,version 2 is more professional.The comparative analysis shows the guiding superiority of the skopos theory on the English-Chinese translation of this text.At the same time,this translation practice also provides a good reference for the translation of informative text.
