The knowledge of children's vocabulary increased rapidly in primary school, with an average of about 3000 words per year.In the course of natural reading, indirect acquisition of vocabulary through context is the main approach to the growth of children's vocabulary, which is called incidental vocabulary learning.A large number of studies have found that the number of reappearance of new words in reading is the main factor effecting incidental vocabulary learning. However, there are also changes in contextual richness in the process of lexical repetition. There is a dispute about the role of the two in incidental vocabulary learning. On the basis of previous studies, strict experimental design is used to separate contextual richness and repetition of new words, and further examine the role of the two in incidental vocabulary learning. In this study,30 children of grade five in a primary school in Tianjin were selected as subjects, all of which were native to Chinese.Using the learning-test paradigm to track the eye movements in children's reading process. The experimental design:2(contextual richness:single context, multi context)x 2(number of repetitions of new words:repeat 3 times, repeat 6 times)is a within subjects design research.Non repetition reading condition is the baseline. The results of the study are as follows:1?After repeated reading, all of the correct rate in the vocabulary test was significantly higher than that of the baseline except 3 times of single context repetition. In the eye movement,The fixation time and fixation probability of the target new word are significantly lower than the beginning of the learning. It is proved that there is a repeated reading effect in incidental vocabulary learning, which is consistent with previous studies.2?The effect of incidental vocabulary learning in children is mainly influenced by the repetition of new words, and the correct rate of repetition of 6 times in the vocabulary test is significantly higher than that of 3 times. The effect of contextual richness mainly occurs on 6 repeated conditions. It shows that the accuracy of multiple contexts is higher than that of single contexts, and the regression-in proportion of multi contextual is significantly shorter than single contexts in eye movements.3?The process of incidental vocabulary learning in children is influenced by the richness of context and the number of repetition of new words. In the fixation time of the target neologism, the multi context conditions were significantly longer than the single context, and the first two times of repeated reading decreased significantly. In the fixation probability, multiple contextual conditions are significantly higher than single contexts, but with the increase of learning times, the fixation probability of a multi context gradually slows down and the single context has been reduced rapidly in the first three times.
