With the development of information technology,as the combination of the technology and education becomes more and more profound,smart education has become a new trend in EFL.The smart class with tablet PCs as terminals has the benefits of enriching teaching and learning materials,building authentic language context and has significant impact on teaching English listening and speaking.By applying tablets to English listening and speaking teaching in junior high school,this study aims at(1)investigating whether the application of tablets in English listening and speaking teaching can improve the students' listening and speaking competence;(2)exploring whether the application of tablets to English listening and speaking teaching can raise students' confidence and interest in English listening and speaking.An experiment was conducted with 96 students from two parallel classes who were taught by the same teacher.One class was chosen as the experimental group(EG)which was taught by the use of tablets,and the other is control group(CG),which was taught in traditional mode without any mobile devices.Research instruments includes tests,questionnaires and an interview.SPSS 20.0 was used to analyze the data collected.The results of the study show that the application of tablets to English listening and speaking teaching helps to improve students' listening and speaking,and is conducive to promote students' confidence and interest in listening and speaking in junior high school.The most important function of tablets teaching is enriching classroom experience to improve students' interest and attitude towards language learning.
