Nigeria is an important part of the Islamic world.In the total population of over 187 million,about half of the population is Muslim.It is the most populous Muslim country in Sub-Saharan Africa.Nigeria Islam has great representativeness in Africa.Ninth Century Islam appeared in the northeast of Nigeria,in Fourteenth Century Muslims from Mali brought Islam to Nigeria's Hausa area.After "Jihad" movement and continuous integration with local society,Islam gradually occupied the dominant position in the north of Nigeria,dramatic changes occurred in society.With the arrival of the colonists,Islam gained a certain development in the crevice of colonialism.After the independence of Nigeria,Islam put forward its own political interests.At the same time,ethnic contradictions and religious contradictions are becoming more and more intense with the regional conflict and the change of political power.Nigeria's national unity and social stability are facing a huge test.In recent years,the rise of political Islam and the rise of the Islamic extremist organization Boko Haram have cast a shadow on the intricate Nigeria politics.Based on the historical development context,this paper analyzes the development of Islam in Nigeria,analyzes its changes and influences at various stages,and explores its future development trend and challenges.
