Synchrony movement is the tendency to match rhythmic behaviors at the same frequency and/or phase. It can influence individuals prosociality.Studies have shown that synchrony movement could strengthen group cohesion and promote prosocial behavior, thereby increasing the friendship among group members and making it easier for people to become a group. The investigation about prosocial effect ofsynchrony movement can helps to understand cooperative behavior in large-scale groups, and thus better construct and develop groups.First of all,as far as the target of the prosocial effect of synchronous action is concerned, there was a debate between generalized and parochial prosociality in current research. The researchers, who agree that synchrony movement can produce parochial sociality, thought synchrony movement only increases the prosociality of ingroup members;but another researchers, who agree that synchrony movement can produce generalized prosociality, thought synchrony movement can both increase prosociality of ingroup and outgroup members.Recent studies have suggested that synchrony movement produces generalized prosociality, but the results have not yet been tested in China.Secendly, the current researches lack the verification of the prosocial effect of synchrony movement in the competitive situation. In addition, the study found that the transient experience of synchrony movement can increase individual prosociality. So,how much of the participation experience of synchrony movement will lead to differences in individual prosociality?Based on above three question, our study adopted situational experiment,we took “His-Left-Foot dance” as the blueprint in order to designed synchrony movement and discussed above questions by two experments.Research 1 examines whether the synchrony movement will have an impact on the ingroup and outgroup's prosociality of Yi and Han undergraduates and its mechanism.Research 2 further explore whether competition situation will influence the prosocial effect of synchrony movement on the basis of Study 1.Research 1 explored the effect of synchrony movement on ingroup andoutgroup's prosociality and its mechanism of Yi and Han undergraduates, when there wasn't competition situation.164 subjects were studied with situational experiments. The design was 2 × 2 × 2 between-subject factorial. The independent variables are movement conditions(synchrony movement, asynchrony movement),help targets(extended ingroup, outgroup)and race(Yi,Han),and the dependent variables are the willingness to help and the amount of time participants were willing to donate. Before the experiment, participants' identity as a members of Yi and Han was primed, then complete different movement task, after movement task, participants was told they had two questionnaires which one was prosociality measure, another was Post-activity questionnaires to complete. The results show that without the competitive context, compared with the asynchrony movement, the participants who completed the synchrony movement had higher prosociality;the main effects of the help target and the nationalies are not significant, and the interaction between them were also not significant.Further analysis showed that entitativity, social bonding, extended fusion and extended identification didn't affect the prosocial effect of synchrony movement.Study 2 investigates synchrony movement's influence on ingroup and outgroup's prosociality of Yi and Han undergraduates and its mechanism. We adopted situational experiment and investigated 186 participants. We designed 2×2 completely random design, movement conditions(synchrony movement, asynchrony movement)and nationality are independent variable, the dependent variable is the number of votes cast to the established dance team.In addition to prosociality measurement materials, the rest of materials and procedures are the same as research 1.The result found that in the competitive situation,There was no significant diffirence between two movement conditions;however, there were differences in prosocialites among different nationalites.Specifically, when the voting target was extended ingroup, the Yi nationality showed more prosociality than the Han nationality;when the voting target was outgroup, the the Han people showed more prosociability than the Yi people.Further analysis showed that entitativity, social bonding, extended fusion and extended identification didn't affect the prosocial effect of synchrony movement. In summary, the main conclusions of this study are as follows:(1)Synchrony movement could improve the prosociality of individuals, but the prosocial effect of synchrony movement were not decided by which one help targets it was.(2)The group competition eliminated the prosocial effect of synchrony movement.(3)In the competitive situation, there were significant differences in the prosociality of the Yi and Han college students.Specifically, when the help target was the extended ingroup, the prosociality of Yi college students are significantly higher than that of Han nationality; When the help target was outgroup, the prosociality of Yi college students are significantly lower than those of Han nationality.(4)Regardless of competition or non-competitive situations, synchrony movements cannot improve the prosociality of the participants through entitativity, social bongding, extended fusion and extended identification.
