Since the rise of Zionism,some American Jews have chosen to immigrate to Israel.They play a unique and complex role in the dynamic relations between the American Jewish community and Israel.The history of Jewish immigration to America can be traced back to the colonial period.Ever since then the Jews have become an important part of the U.S.population.After the massive immigration waves from Germany and Eastern Europe in nineteenth century and the contraction in twentieth century,about 450 thousand of Jews were living as Americans by 1948.The American Judaism has gradually developed into a religious system composed of various religious denominations.With the State of Israel established in 1948 and claimed that it would be open for Jewish immigration and for the Ingathering of the Exiles around the world,a small number of American Jews have chosen to emigrate and settle in Israel.Based on a general analysis of relevant data,news reports and investigation reports,this paper examines the American Jews immigration from 1948 to 1973,and try to understand who would leave the U.S.and why they choose to go to Israel.The main text of this paper is divided into three parts,which separately discusses the historical context of American Jewish immigration to Israel,the progress of American Jews' immigration and the difficulties and challenges faced by them.Part ? reviews the development of the Jewish community in the United States.It provides the historical and cultural background for the ideology of immigration by reviewing the dynamic development of American Jews and exploring the social atmosphere of American Jewish people in the mid-20 th century.Part ? focus on American Jews who chose to immigrant to Israel during the period 1948-1966 and 1967-1973 and discusses the extent to which the social and cultural background of the United States and Israel at that time contributed to the American Jewish settlement in Israel.Part ? rethinks the issue of American Jewish immigration to Israel.Analyzing the difficulties and challenges encountered by the American Jews during the immigration process and what stops them from making the decision.
