Monument to the People's Heroes,standing on the Tian'anmen square,is the first large monument established by the state government after the founding of People's Republic of China.It is one of the most outstanding large-scale public art projects,which contains both the traditional ethnic style of architectureand distinctive spirits of the times.It does not only show creative thoughts of the framers,but also the high skill level of the craftsmen.Relief sculptures and mural paintings are the crucial parts of Monument to the People's Heroes.Although designed by eight artists,the relief sculptures and the mural paintings follow the unified style,which providing an integrated picture and leaving a dramatic impression on descendants.The relief sculptures and the mural paintings of Monument to the People's Heroes illustrate the majestic appearance and spirits of our nation while keeping the personal design concepts of artists.Every piece of the relief sculptures and the mural paintings shows a major battle participated by our Chinese people which highlighting the significance of founding Monument to the People's Heroes and forming a harmonic unified picture of the relief sculptures,the mural paintings and the monument.The thesis is composed of four parts which show the study on relief sculptures and mural paintings of Monument to the People's Heroes from the perspective of art.The first part shows brief analysis on sources,aims,influences and research situations of the subject.The second part gives an exposition of the founding of Monument to the People's Heroes,which analyzing the backgrounds,subjects,contents and framers.The third part reveals the art characteristics of the relief sculptures and the mural paintings of Monument to the People's Heroes,which firstly show the techniques and the art style.The fourth part is the value of the relief sculptures and the mural paintings of Monument to the People's Heroes in modern sculpture history and influences on the succeeding subject-oriented relief sculpture creations,which allow readers to have access tocomprehending the marvelous Monument to the People's Heroesand art characteristics of the long-lasting relief sculptures and mural paintings on it.
