College students are in the transitional period from adolescence to adulthood.Thinking about and planning for the future becomes an important task for a smooth transition.College students have more chances for self-development,but are still affected by important others.They are eager for independence,but also need guidance and support.How these two aspects affect the future planning of college students and affect their further development is a matter of concern.This study focused on the perceived parenting behaviors and autonomy,using the methods of questionnaires and interviews to investigate the influence of parenting behaviors and autonomy on future planning in college students.In the questionnaire study,601 college students were selected,to investigate the relationships among the perceived parental psychological control and autonomy support,dual autonomy and future planning,especially examined the mediating role of autonomy in the relationship between parenting behaviors and future planning.The interview study focused on different roles of parents and college students in future planning,adopted grounded theory approach to further explore an interactive process between parents and individuals when planning for future among 12 interviewees.The research found that:(a)In various development domains,future planning for education and careers reached a higher level,marriage and family reached lower.(b)Lower parental psychological control and higher autonomy support were perceived by college students.(c)The autonomy of college students developed well for both individuating autonomy and relating autonomy,especially for relating autonomy.(d)By characterizing future plans from both action and emotion,parental psychological control was a negative factor only for the emotion of future planning,and had an indirect effect on the emotion of future planning,through it's influence on individuating autonomy and relating autonomy.On the other hand,parental autonomy support was a positive factor for the action and emotion of future planning,and had an indirect effect on the action of future planning through only individuating autonomy,and also had an indirect effect on the emotion of future planning through individuating autonomy and relating autonomy.(e)Between parenting environment and personal development requirements,college students developed different coping styles to balance the relationship with parents.The results of the interaction strengthened the autonomy,to form a relationship characterized by "personal domination,parental involvement".In exploring the influencing mechanism of college students' future planning from both parents and individuals,reflected the adaptive function of parental autonomy support and autonomy,as well as the inadaptive function of parental psychological control.In particular,the attention to relating autonomy highlighted the key role of dependent self-identification in adaptive development of college students,in the cultural concept of mutual dependence and filial piety,which providing culturally and practically implications.
