According to English Curriculum Standard of Senior High School(2017),attention should be paid to a lot of elements such as emotion,attitude and value that senior high school students demonstrate in the process of English learning,which will be helpful to cultivate and develop their language ability,cultural awareness,thinking quality,learning ability and other core disciplines.Anxiety is a very important emotional factor in English learning.Therefore,many scholars have studied English learning anxiety.But regrettably,there are few studies on English learning anxiety among senior high school students of minority in China.Therefore,this study aims to investigate the current situation of English writing anxiety of senior high school students of Miao nationality in order to investigate its main manifestations and causes,and then provides them with a useful reference of alleviating or eliminating their English writing anxiety.This study takes senior high school students of Miao nationality from Taijiang National High School in Guizhou Province as the research subject.The author investigates English writing anxiety of senior high school students of Miao nationality in this school through questionnaires and interviews.Before the investigation,the author formulates the questionnaire named “English Writing Anxiety Questionnaire of Senior High School Students of Miao Nationality.” The questionnaire is divided into two parts.The first part is about the survey of the personal conditions of senior high school students of Miao nationality.The second part is about the investigation of the current situation,main manifestations and causes of English writing anxiety of these students.During the investigation,the author issues a total of 289 questionnaires and takes back 289 questionnaires in total,of which 282 questionnaires are valid.After the questionnaire survey,the statistics and analysis of the effective questionnaire data are carried out by the author.Subsequently,to find out main issues reflected in the questionnaire,the author carries out individual interviews with 6 senior high school students of Miao nationality,and conducts a detailed analysis of the interviews on five of them to understand the actual situation behind these issues.Through this study,the author finds that senior high school students of Miao nationality almost have English writing anxiety.The anxiety mainly manifests as follows: they have sense of tension or fear before writing in English;they are worried about vocabulary or syntactic errors in the process of English writing;they worry that it is difficult to express their own thoughts clearly in English;they are afraid that they don't know about the writing topic involved,and so forth.After analyzing the questionnaires and interview results,the author finds that these anxieties are inseparable from the influence of Miao language and culture as well as Chinese language and culture on senior high school students of Miao nationality.It's hoped that this study can help English teachers in the Miao region to learn about English writing anxiety of senior high school students of Miao nationality and help these students to reduce or eliminate English writing anxiety,so as to greatly improve English writing teaching in senior high schools of the Miao region.
