Since the advent of the English translation of Jie Mi,namely,Decoded: A Novel on 18 March 2014,it has become a sensation in English-speaking world.Unprecedented for translated Chinese literary works, the great achievements made by the novel have attracted the attention of many a scholar. They have approached the translation from various perspectives, but there is seldom one who uses Itamar Even-Zohar's polysystem theory to analyze the translation and dissemination of the novel. In his seminal paper “The Position of Translated Literature within the Literary Polysystem,” Even-Zohar puts forward that translated literature is correlated with the target literary polysystem, and that the position of the former within the latter has an influence on the selection of texts to be translated and the translation strategies adopted by the translations.Based on the theory, this thesis intends to explore under the condition where translated Chinese literature maintains a peripheral position in English literary polysystem, why Jie Mi is selected to translate, what translation strategies the translators employ and how the translation is disseminated overseas.Besides, some inspiration concerning the selection of texts, the translation of texts and the overseas dissemination of the translations will be drawn for Chinese literature going global.Through research,it has been found that Jie Mi reinforces the repertoire in English literary polysystem to some extent, that domestication is the primary strategy in the translation and that all of the literary agent, the publishing houses and the mass media made contribution to the promotion of the novel. It is hoped that this research would prompt scholars to take into account the peripheral position of translated Chinese literature within English literary polysystem while trying to spread Chinese literature all over the world.
