Since Humanistic Psychology in 1960 s,people pay more and more attention to the influence of students' emotion on language learning.Anxiety,as an important aspect of affective factors, has received extensive attention from researchers at home and abroad. In practical English teaching,English writing skills are not paid as much attention as other language skills and students are prone to anxiety in the process of writing. Therefore, based on the theory of humanistic psychology and affective filter hypothesis, this study investigates the overall situation of senior middle school students' English writing anxiety and its causes.361 students in a senior high school in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region participated the study by questionnaires and interviews. This study intended to investigate the current situation of English writing anxiety of senior high school students and analyze the differences in their writing anxiety in genders, grades, type of classes(key classes and ordinary classes),disciplines(arts and sciences),writing achievements, personalities(introverts and extroversion)and neuroticisms. The research indicates that:(1)Senior high school students experience a moderate-level anxiety in English writing. They have a moderate degree on somatic anxiety and cognitive anxiety,a high level on avoidance behaviour.(2)There exist significant differences in learners' writing anxiety among different types of classes(key classes and ordinary classes),different writing achievements, different personalities(introverts and extroversion)and different neuroticisms but there are no differences in learners' different genders, different grades, differences of disciplines(arts and sciences).Based on these findings, the factors which influence the writing anxiety are discussed. Therefore, some suggestions offered for improving the students' writing performance are given.
