Vanke equity dispute becomes an important event that has attracted extensive attention from all walks of life,and whether it is corporate governance or government management,or even academics who study Vanke equity dispute,it can be a classic case.The research and analysis of this incident case can undoubtedly play an active role in pushing forward the reform of the economic system.Most of the existing researches on Vanke equity dispute are limited to corporate governance.The research of evaluation theory is mainly reflected in the field of linguistics.The present research sorts out a large number of fragmented news reports mainly from Wall Street Journal,Financial Times,China Daily and selects 20 English news reports on each of three stages that are start,climax,and ending of Vanke equity dispute to set up three small corpora with a total number of 30,000 words from 60 articles.Based on Martin's Appraisal Theory,UAM Corpus Tool 3.3 is used to find the distribution characteristics of attitude resources and their differences in different stages of the event,and content analysis and comparative analysis are used to analyze typical evaluation discourse to explore various attitudes of the stakeholders involved in the incident.Through research and analysis,it is found that the attitude resources used in the news reports on Vanke equity dispute have similarities and differences in the distribution and attitude expression of the three stages of the incident.The similarities are as follows: 1)Affect resource,judgement resource,and appreciation resource under Attitude System are all present at different stages of Vanke equity dispute;2)They can be divided by attitude polarity—positive attitude,negative attitude and ambiguous attitude;3)The proportion of affect resource is relatively low and judgement resource is relatively highest in three corpora.The differences are as follows: 1)With regard to affect resource,the negative resources in the beginning and climax stages are both high,and the positive resources in the end stage are higher than negative resources,which positively conforms to the positive resolution of Vanke equity dispute;2)As for judgement resources,during the beginningand the climax stages,the negative resources are relatively high.The positive resources increases and is higher than the negative resources in the end stage,which is related to the disapproval of Baoneng's behaviour,approval of Vanke brand and fame and the strong wish for the positive and effective solution by supervision department in the English news reports;3)Regarding appreciation resource in the three stages,the proportion of negative reaction resource gradually decreases while the positive one gradually increases higher than negative resources,and the percentage of negative composition is relatively high and highest in climax stage,which reveals that the news reports on negative image of Baoneng reduces and approval of Vanke and solution by government,and the complexity and apparent conflicts between Vanke and Baoneng.In addition,the changes of resources under Attitude System in stages are mainly related to the game between acquisition and anti-acquisition,the macroeconomic control characteristics of the socialist market economy,and the economic background of insurance investment in capital market.Finally,It hopes this study can provide new learning content for Business English learners,that is,to analyze business cases from the perspective of linguistics;and provide effective enlightenment for market players to properly use media influence to express opinions and attitudes and establish a positive corporate image;and provide regulators valuable references to promote a healthy and orderly socialist market economy.
