| Contemporary Israeli writer Amos Oz(1939-)describe the subject of betrayal in his novels.In the literary tradition,betrayal has historically been defined as a violation of benevolence and morality,whereas it has transcended the traditional meaning and has been demonstrated with a new and special appearance in the novels of Amos Oz which highlights Oz’s thoughts on family life,his concerns about the country,and his humanistic care for the living conditions of Israel and Arab nations.Through combing and commenting on the research of Amos Oz’s novels,this article discussed three types of expressions of betrayal theme in Amos Oz’s novels,which are betrayals of identity,emotions,and parents.And the betrayal action of characters in several representative works were listed based on former classifications to pursue deeper meanings through various forms of betrayal of characters in the novels.Analyzes causes of betrayal which happened in Amos Ozzie’s work which including ethical reasons,historical reasons and religious reasons.Oz’s growing environment looks perfect,whereas his father was derailed and his mother committed suicide after being disheartened with life.These circumstances made Oz feel strongly about betrayal.Jewish history and culture,Israel’s social situation before and after the foundation of their country,and the nostalgia of Europe of their ancestors who has returned to the “promised land” deepened the understanding of the betrayal of Oz.Based on the discussion of description of betrayal behavior and the analysis of the causes,this article reviewed the value and influence of the theme of betrayal in Amos Oz’s novels.The literary ethics value,subject value and aesthetic political value of the betrayal theme in Amos Oz’s novels were also revealed.Oz’s unique insights of the "betrayal" is rich in social and cultural meanings.For instance,Oz hopes to seek a "third state" of peace based on Israel and Arab peoples.The betrayal theme in Amos Oz’s works is characteristic in the aspects of type,reason and value which contains the author’s unique views on family relations,Arab-Israeli relations,and cultural traditions.It attached Amos Oz’s ideal of relieving the past and expectation for peace. |
