As one of the most important ways of obtaining information and knowledge,reading is of great importance during the period of the study.It is the same with the English study.Reading plays an essential role in improving the integrated language ability.Thus,during the English teaching,teachers have made it an important aim to improve the students' reading ability.But the traditional teaching method pays more attention to the “test” and the “language structure ” itself,especially in the rural areas,which is short for the advanced teaching conditions and facilities.In addition,teachers here are lake of enough knowledge of the method.The traditional teaching method(3P-Presentation,Practice,Production)is still in use,resulting in the passive accept of the “language structure” and the “sentence patterns” in the English classes.And there is no doubt that the students' interest in the English reading and study has been decreasing.Task-based Language Teaching method is an great exploration in the history of the teaching,which requires teachers to promote the class with the help of the “tasks”.Students would be able to get knowledge by taking part in the different tasks actively instead of accepting the knowledge passively,and the final presentation will be made to show their achievements.However,the Task-based Language Teaching method is still not in large use especially in the rural senior high schools.Hence,the author has made an attempt to take the teaching method into use in the reading class in a rural senior high school,aiming at solving the three questions then.With the national English curriculum standards was issued by the Ministry of Education,the request of students' comprehensive qualities has been put forward higher and higher.It claimed that the students are not only required to pass the examination,but also can use English in their daily life and work in the future.With the requirements of the new curriculum standards and the condition of rural senior high school,the author did an experimental research,which lasted for about 4 months in An Sai senior high school.The subjects of the research were the Class 2 and Class 4 which are both taught by author.There are 50 students respectively in the two classes.The author randomly designed Class 2 as the experiment class where the Task-based Language Teaching was used while Class 4 as the control class where the traditional teaching method was used instead.The author did pre-test and post-test before and after the experiment.After the experiment,the students in the experiment class are found better in reading ability especially the ability in getting the main idea compared with the students in control class.Through tests,questionnaires and interview,the author came to an conclusion that Task-based Language Teaching can be used in the reading class in rural senior high school effectively,which can not only improve students' reading comprehension ability especially the ability of getting the main idea of the paragraph or the whole passage,but also arouse the students' interest in reading.Task-based language Teaching method had provide a more effective teaching method for the English teachers in rural high school.Besides,the TBLT teaching cases during the experiment can be used in their later teaching,which will ease their burdens in some degrees.
