A Study Of Retreat Poetry Strategy Of Yujian

Yu Jian,as a representative of the Chinese Third Generation Poets,ascend the arena of poetry in a rebel's posture.The shock of "Rejecting metaphor" to the traditional poetic system makes the poet controversial.The evaluation of Yu Jian has long been polarized.The destructive power of his poetic ideas also contradicts his self-assumed status of "traditional lyric poet".Many contradictions indicate that we may have some misunderstanding about Yu Jian's poetry ideas,while the loose expression of Yu Jian has deepened this misreading.Yu Jian calls himself a poet of retreat.The character of retreat is in conflict with the norms of poetry,but it is also the reason of his uniqueness.This thesis is divided into four chapters in its discussion of "retreat" as a strategy embodied in the poetic theory of Yu Jian.The first chapter examines how his "rejection of metaphor" is proposed vis-à-vis the homogenization of obscure poems and how the slogan evolves to “retreat from‘metaphor'” to discuss the meaning of retreat as a method.The second chapter,through the identification of the divinity of concept,concludes that Yu Jian's “writing of daily living” aims to retreat from a writing of upward sublimation and utopian idealand return to the ordinary and real life scene,and to confront the future myth in a traditional time view.The third chapter,centered on Yu Jian's theory of the homogeneity of poetry and witchcraft,which is often mentioned but has not been studied by him in the new century,discussesthat in returning to the “bewitching and haunting witchcraft”,Yu Jiancame into conflict with the “highbrowed writing” that is more exquisite in artistry and depth,and found in the irrationalities of witchcraft his bargaining chip against modern civilization.In the fourth chapter,the retreat strategy is examined dialectically and demonstrated that the significance of retreatconsists in keepinga distance from the mainstream of literary circles,and beingcautiousand sober vis-à-vis the existing poetic methods,so as to obtain a larger degree of independence in poetry creation.It is also pointed out that Yu Jian presents a simple dualistic division of different poetic tendencies and features an exclusionary tendentiousness.If he cannot find a balance in it,the latitude in his retreatwill dissolve,as either side may become the “behemoth” that constrain the writing of poets.Retreat is neither a retrogression nor a mere rebellion.It is to harbor a sense of skepticism of all the ascending,progressing,and canonized things,whose purpose is not to dissolve them,but to create new traditions.Understanding the mechanism and purpose of retreatstrategy is of great significance for us to treat Yu Jian's poetic endeavorswith better tolerance and objectivity.
