Enrique Alcaraz Varó and Brian Hughes' s Legal Translation Explained, published in 2008,is a book concerning theories of legal translation studies. On the one hand,it comprehensively and systematically construes the legal translation concentrating on three aspects: linguistics, law and translation studies;on the other hand, this book describes various in-depth rules and skills of legal translation in an acceptable way.Furthermore, the first two Chapters of this book demonstrate legal translation in the view of linguistics including features of legal English and equivalence applied in legal contexts, which provides theoretical basis for translators. In the meantime, there is no Chinese version of this book;therefore, the author determines to translate the Chapters One and Two for legal translation learners' reference. This report explores the translation difficulties in Chapters One and Two mainly guided by Professor Zhao's four “information bridges” especially the bridge of linguistic convention and the bridge of legal system, with Chinese translation and English version of New Approach of Legal Translation as parallel books.Besides,Forensic Linguistics and Legal Language Studies provide great help in respect of knowledge of forensic linguistics.Thereinto, lexical choices and syntactic structure are priorities of this research,in which translation methods of synonyms,non-English legal terms and linguistic terms,as well as syntactic translation rules of legal scholarly works are canvassed through case study and analysis of Chinese and English distinctive syntactic features. Finally, the author hopes to this report could be conducive to legal translators.
