Lincoln's Wrath,a documentary novel,is published by Sourcebook. It describes the reality that Lincoln manipulated the main papers to cement his political power during the Civil War.In this novel, there are some events that Jeffersonian and other antiwar papers were mobbed, which reflects the conflict on press freedom between the media and government.Lincoln's Wrath is featured by its political comments, and boasts precise textual structure with vividly descriptive language. In this translation report, the chapter six and seven are selected as the translation materials.Under the guidance of Information Structure Theory interpreted by M.A.K Halliday, some translated cases are analyzed in terms of information structure and focus at the level of sentences and text. The purpose of this report is to conclude some difficult points: define the object of demonstrative pronouns in the source text;highlight the center information of the sentence;form the cohesive translated text;restore documentary literature?s features;transfer the comments? mood and so on.This report analyzes the law of English information structure to discuss related translation strategies, such as the restoration and reconstruction of information structure, judge the focus;and skills like amplification, conversion and splitting which may contribute to the solution to some translation problems caused by the differences between English and C hinese in syntactical structure, grammar rules and expression pattern.
