Shuilu painting,a necessary image tool for Water-Land ceremony,is one of the popular forms of religious art in Yuan,Ming and Qing dynasties, mainly describing some gods and ghosts. The Water-Land murals in Princess temple's Daxiong palace, the outstanding murals in the north of Shanxi province,is drawed exquisitely with a highly artistic value and aesthetic style. This paper takes the murals as the research object, interpreting the gods and ghosts on the north and the south walls about its inscriptions, identities and meanings,so as to make up for the research's gap on the north and the south wall.Meanwhile, the thesis discusses the temple's regulation, the princess' s name and the mural's time, explores its artistic style by a comparison with Hebei and Shanxi region to investigate the particularity of its style and mutual influence, also discusses the east and the west wall,It is concluded that the murals of Princess Temple do not completely inherit the drawing style of Shanxi, but only reflect certain Shanxi factors, which are more influenced by the murals in Hebei, especially in the Pilu Temple. This article's innovation is the combination of field investigation, local records, inscriptions and other historical records, referring to sadhana, scripture and other documents for studying the gods and ghosts of the north and south walls in Princess temple about its inscriptions, the grouping, the identities and meanings. Finally, the thesis improves the study of the murals in Princess temple with finishing the study of the murals on the north and the south wall.
