Subtitle is defined as non-image content shown in written form in films and television programs. The import and export of films and television programs are increasingly common in the field of cultural exchange along with the globalization.Furthermore, subtitle translation plays an ever-greater role in the world. The Chinese translation of subtitle gives the audience an opportunity to understand and appreciate foreign programs, and it is also one of the most important ways for them to expand their horizons and contact different cultures.Due to the limitation and particularity of subtitle in practical use, translators and researchers need to analyze it and summarize the specific translation strategies and principles,in order to solve the problems that may occur in subtitle translation. In the perspective of Skopos Theory and program effect, this paper studies the translation of subtitle texts based on syntactic linearity. This paper,by illustrating multiple foreign TV programs, fulfilling the subtitling requirements and comparing parallel texts and search tools, summarizes the problems in subtitle translation and identifies the corresponding strategies.Through segmentation, amplification and omission as well as conversion, this paper partly solves the typical problems in subtitle translation and achieves the expected goal of syntactic linearity, providing reference to the E-C translation programs of the same type.
