With the development of humanistic psychology in the 1960 s,emotional factors in language teaching receive attention by researchers.They find that the learner's emotional state will affect their learning behavior and learning effect.Anxiety,as one of the emotional factors in language learning,has a great influence on learners' language acquisition.Aiming at how to reduce learners' learning anxiety or further optimize their learning emotion,cooperative learning arose at the historic moment.Based on the previous study,this thesis explores the effect of cooperative learning on different-level students' English learning anxiety from three dimensions—communication apprehension,fear of negative evaluation and self-efficacy.By means of questionnaire survey and interview to investigate 184 students in Xi'an Foreign Languages School,174 valid questionnaires were collected and the efficient was 94.6%.In data analysis part,ANOVA was applied to address the research questions.All the statistics were analyzed by SPSS 25.0 and the result of the study are as follows:Cooperative learning has different effect on different-level students,and there are significant differences in English learning anxiety among high-level students,intermediate-level students and low-level students.Firstly,for high-level students in cooperative learning,they hardly show communication apprehension or negative evaluation,and their self-efficacy is very strong.Secondly,for intermediate-level students,cooperative learning is helpful to reduce their communication apprehension,but their self-efficacy is not promoted significantly and there remains fear of negative evaluation because they lack of confidence.Thirdly,for low-level students,their self-efficacy is relatively low and there still exsits communication apprehension,however,low-level students' fear of negative evaluation can be relieved greatly in cooperative learning.Therefore,when applying cooperative learning in Engish class,teachers are supposed to improve their understanding of cooperative learning and pay attention to the emotional needs of different-levels students.Moreover,teachers should provide students guidance to establish good relationship both teacher-student and student-student to further improve their English level.
