Learner autonomy can be defined as learners' capacity to take responsibility for their own learning.It is a necessity in today's world in which globalization and the development of technology have led to a fast change of vast amounts of information.As formal teaching simply cannot keep up with the continuous changes,learners need to be able to process that information autonomously.Interpreting is a profession which requires its practitioners to keep learning throughout their professional lives.For this,learner autonomy is of critical importance for interpreting students.However,no previous studies have assessed MI students' autonomy level from its multi-dimensional aspects.Thus,this paper suggests a survey using a questionnaire as an instrument to assess to which extent MI students of three grades in Xi'an International Studies University(XISU)possess the capacity associated with learner autonomy.It probes into three research questions concerning MI students learner autonomy level,characteristics of their autonomy and factors which may affect their autonomy.The report offers a detailed description of the survey,including sample selection,questionnaire design and administration,data collection,process and analysis.Among the findings are:(1)the mean score of autonomy degree of MI students in XISU is 3.6664 out of 5,suggesting that the average MI student is 73.34% autonomous in his/her learning;(2)MI students are the most autonomous in the dimension of learning strategy use,followed by the dimension of learning reflection and evaluation and the dimension of learning objectives and plans;(3)autonomy level is not correlated with gender,year,age and undergraduate majors significantly.
