With the increasing maturity of the Chinese international education promotion,New HSK has gradually become a large-scale and high-risk international language standardization test.The new HSK-5 level,as a threshold for some universities to recruit overseas students,and one of the prerequisites for overseas students with Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages to apply for the "Confucius Institute Scholarship," which has received more attention from overseas students and got the largest number of test-takers among all the HSK levels.The amount of new HSK listening questions makes up 45% of the total quantity of the test,which is significantly higher than the old version which is only occupied 29%.It shows that the score of listening comprehension in New HSK tends to tip the scale in the whole test.As a result,it is necessary to make a study on the test-takers' performance in New HSK-5 level listening comprehension.This paper proceeds from the process of answering in the test,followed by analysis upon the understanding process in the same level of listening comprehension of different test levels,the strategy usage and the variation tendency of the strategy usage.Having chosen new HSK-5 level listening comprehension as research material,this paper made an analysis upon the answering process in listening comprehension from four Thailand students with different linguistic levels in Chongqing University for three consecutive years by means of think aloud protocol and retrospective interviews.It has found out that the comprehension process for test-takers of different linguistic levels is more or less the same.Both the choice of strategy and the level of use of test-takers with different linguistic levels in listening comprehension differ a lot from one to the other.The variation tendency of strategy of use accords with the level of listening comprehension of test-takers who have different linguistic levels.According to the research summary,the author provides some thoughts and suggestions for the use of Chinese listening teaching,New HSK-5 level listening test and the application of sound think aloud protocol in the study of listening test.At the same time,it points out the limitations of this study,and provides some implications for further research.
