Time perception is the perception of the persistence and orderliness of objective phenomena, which is commonly referred as "perceived now".Duration perception is an important component of the field of time perception. It refers to the individuals' perception of the interval between two consecutive events or the duration of a certain event. In our daily life,we often have such an experience: when we are happy,we often feel that time flies quickly, like day and night. When sadness is depressed, there is often a feeling of growing up.Time perception plays an important role in our daily life.It requires the participation of time perception in activities such as sports, language exchange and listening to the music.Studies have found that many factors can affect the perception of time, such as emotion, attention, personality, length of stimulus presentation, the number of stimuli, and stimuli presentation methods. The eyes are not only an important part of the face, but also play an important role in the formation of facial expressions. So,will the eyes' relevant attributes(such as the gaze direction)affect duration perception? The so-called gaze direction refers to the direction in which the eyes are gazing.Eye gaze can be divided into gazing and not gazing, and gazing can be divided into direct gaze and averted direction.Studies have investigated the effect of gaze direction on duration perception, and found that the combination of gaze direction and facial expression can affect the perception of duration perception of emotional faces. However, there has been little research on the effect of gaze direction(self-attributes)on perception of time.At the present, few studies that have examined the effect of gaze on duration perception. This paper first examined the effect of gaze on perception of duration perception, and explored the influence of different gaze directions(self-attributes)on duration perception. This paper discusses the influence of gaze direction on time perception through five experiments.Experiment 1 used virtual face images, using time bisection method, selected standard time intervals of 400 ms and 1600 ms,and comparison time intervals of 400 ms,600ms,800 ms,1000ms,1200 ms,1400ms,and 1600 ms,to investigate whether there was direct vision on duration perception. The results show that there is no difference in subjective equality, but there are differences in Weber scores.Study 2 is divided into Experiment 2a and Experiment 2b.The same experimental paradigm as in Experiment 1 is used. The standard and comparison time interval in Experiment 1 are also used.In Experiments 2a and 2b,the experimental materials used were real face images obtained by photographing. As a result,it is found in experiment 2a that direct gaze caused an overestimation of duration perception compared to a gray image(baseline),whereas in experiment 2b no effect of gaze direction on duration perception was found.Study 3 is divided into Experiment 3a and Experiment 3b.The effect of gaze direction on time perception is explored using images of eye-local information.Experiment 3a explored the effect of gaze on duration perception, and found that the gaze had no effect on duration perception. In Experiment 3b,the effect of direct gaze and averted gaze on duration perception were investigated. It was found that direct gaze caused an overestimation of duration perception and averted gaze caused an underestimation of duration perception.Based on the above five experiments, the following conclusions can be drawn: The gaze direction of different types of faces have different effect on time perception, and the fixation of the virtual face causes the subjects to be more sensitive to time, and the direct look of the real faces and gray pictures(the baseline level)is overestimated compared to the duration perception of the subjects, but when only the eye part of the information is presented, the gaze direction has an effect on the perception of the duration perception of the subjects,as compared with the left averted direction. The trial time is underestimated from perception;compared with right averted direction, direct gaze caused overestimation of duration perception.
