Translation teaching is an important branch of translation studies, while translation training serves as an vital part of translation teaching, and translation training also stands as one of the major methods to improve the translation competence for translator trainees. However, the time left for translation training on class is far from sufficient, and translator trainees tend to practise translation through autonomous training(hereinafter referred to briefly as translation training)after class.Due to its flexibility and learning autonomy, translation training after class can be conducive to translation teaching to some extent. This study aims at verifying the effectiveness of peer feedback in Chinese to English translation training. As a collaborative learning model, peer feedback has been drawing attention in the circle of translation studies in recent years. The purpose of adopting peer feedback in translation training is to improve the translation competence for translation trainees and such model requires translator trainees to provide feedback on translation texts to each others, which gives full play to the initiative and enthusiasm of translator trainees.Based on the reviews of current studies, research on peer feedback in translation studies, especially the research on the effectiveness of peer feedback in translation studies remain inadequate.Against this background, this study is designated to explore the following research questions: firstly, what different types of peer feedback are there for translator trainees in Chinese-English translation training? Secondly, how do the different types of peer feedback distribute in Chinese-English translation training?Thirdly, what's the effect of peer feedback on translator trainees performance in Chinese-English translation training? To answer the three research questions above, this research adopts qualitative and quantitative methods.36 subjects who major in translation studies in a post-graduate school in the southern China are called upon to participate in a Chinese to English translation training. They are randomly dividedinto experimental group and control group with the former adopting peer feedback in the training session.Pre-test and post-test are arranged respectively before and after the training. All peer feedback data from the training are collected and the pre-test and post-test results from both groups are compared and analyzed.During the experiments, raters and randomly picked subjects are interviewed to unveil the changes of attitude towards peer feedback in translation training, and the author makes further analysis on the experimental data and reveals the reasons. And also, suggestions and advice for peer feedback in translation training are put forward based on interviews. This study could serve,to some extent,as a reference for teachers to arrange teaching activity and conduct teaching assessment.Hopefully, the findings of this research could also serve as a guidance for translators trainees to conduct after-class translation training with peer feedback.
