Due to its diversity,sensual and physical redundancies,music is considered as a type of ideal carrier for steganography,and has attracted increasing attention from the research community of information hiding.Music steganography,however,suffer some limitations such as the abstractness of music,the methods for embedding message and the restrictions of relative knowledge,is largely unexplored compare with the existing steganographic techniques.Thus,in this paper,we consider the properties in music for steganography and have consequently,proposed some music-based steganographic method.Without loss of generality,our research is focused on guitar music,which is a representative form of music.The detail researches in this paper are stated as follows.First,reviewing the commonly subjective evaluation method in the field of steganography,introducing the music theory involved in consonance and dissonance as well as the explanations for consonance in acoustic models.Apply the corresponding models in the objective evaluation of music to evaluate the steganographic transparency in terms of the sensory consonance.Second,the existing steganographic method based on scanned music scores would inevitably reduce the quality of scores while concealing secret messages.Thus,in this paper,we propose a method for hiding information in guitar tablatures.The main idea is that,for a given sheet music,people mainly concentrate on its content,but nearly pay no attention to its typesetting style and visual quality.Therefore,we can embed secret messages by modulating the typesetting style of Portable Document Format(PDF)guitar tablatures.We present for practical strategies for hiding information in different part of guitar tablatures.The results demonstrate that our scheme can achieve excellent security and good embedding capacity(i.e.,10-16 bits/measure).Third,consider that the inappropriate note modulations in some method will reduce the auditory effect of the music,this paper proposes a novel note-modulating steganographic scheme for guitar music,which,based on the fact that there are there are many note combinations available for expressing a group of similar harmony effects in music.Our scheme will embed secret messages into guitar accompaniment by modulating the cover note combinations according to the combinations in chord members.The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed scheme is feasible and efficient.Particularly,employing an appropriate matrix embedding strategy,the proposed scheme can achieve a good balance between steganographic transparency and capacity.Last,the existing music-based steganographic methods embed messages into the redundancies in music content.Nowadays,with the rapid development of the automatic composition techniques,there is no method to combine the composition method and steganographic method and compose music according to secret message.For this reason,this paper designed a steganographic method to create guitar solo by secret information,which principle is that to classify the notes in music melody into different categories according to music theory,and use them to generate guitar solo with good auditory effects.The experimental results show that there is no significant difference in the auditory effect between the normal guitar solos and steganographic ones.
