A Report On The Translation Of Casual Expressions Of Idle Feeling(Residence)

This thesis is a report on the translation of Casual Expressions of Idle Feeling.Casual Expressions of Idle Feeling was written by Li Yu,who was a famous litterateur,drama theorist,and aesthetician of the late Ming Dynasty and the early Qing Dynasty.Li Yu casually and idly expressed his feelings about life,and reflected his minds and esthetic mood on the book,which covers every part of ancient people's lives.As to the fifth Volume,Residence,it mainly concerns about the designs of house and garden,which reveals Li Yu's aesthetic ideology about their decoration.Li Yu is good at loading his pages with references,so that there are abundant cultural loaded information in the source text,including culture-loaded terms,idioms,and literary allusions.Based Thick Translation theory put forward by Kwame Appiah,the thesis will analyze culture-loaded information,so as to introduce Li Yu and his points of aesthetics to the target readers,and further spread Chinese classical literature and excellent traditional culture.The thesis consists of four chapters.Chapter One is task description,including introduction to the translation material,author of the source text,and translation requirements.Chapter Two is process description that includes preparation,while-translating,and proofreading.Chapter Three,Case Study,is the most important part in the thesis.In this chapter,translation analysis will be given under the guidance of Thick Translation.The translator will offer an introduction to the translation theory and translation methods so as to further analyze culture-loaded information.Chapter Four is conclusions and suggestions,which will give an overview of the translation report and also present limitations in the thesis and suggestions for translation of Chinese classic.
