Objective:Explore the biological basis of TCM Five-Patten Personality Inventory. And provide the evidence of relationship between brain network and Five-Pattern Personality Inventory.Methods:Five-Pattern Personality Inventory was used to measure the personality of healthy adults. After comparing to norms,a total of 109 participants were enrolled,82 particiants had typical Five-Pattern personality, the others had atypical Five-Pattern personality. And resting-state f MRI data were collected.Based on MATLAB R2012 a,we used DPARSF software to preprocess the f MRI data. And Brainnet Construction was used to process the data of CNM and FSM.Finally,SPSS was used to analyze the relationship between indices of brain network property and Five-Pattern Personality Inventory.Results:1.The findings of relation between Inventory and brain network property indices.Taiyang,Shaoyang,Yinyangheping,Shaoyin and Taiyin were Five dimensions of Five-Pattern Personality Inventory.A total of 90 brain regions(based on AAL)were analyzed for the local attribute indices. The indices were: betweenness centrality, degree, and nodal efficiency. The significant relationship results are as follows:(1)There was a significant positive correlation between the Taiyang dimension scores and the betweenness centrality in the left cuneus.(2)The score of Shaoyang dimension was positively correlated with betweenness centrality of the right thalamus, and positively correlated with the degree of the left supplementary motor area.(3)The Yinyangheping dimension score was significantly positively correlated with the betweenness centrality in the right posterior cingulate gyrus.(4)The Shaoyin dimension score was significantly positively correlated with the betweenness centrality in the right superior parietal gyrus and was significantly negatively correlated with the nodal efficiency in the left middle occipital gyrus, right middle temporal gyrus and right inferior temporal gyrus.(5)The Taiyin dimension score was significantly negatively correlated with the nodal efficiency in the right inferior temporal gyrus.2.Results of research on differences in global network indicators between groups. The five typical personality groups were: typical Taiyang, typical Shaoyang, typical Yinyangheping, typical Shaoyin and typical Taiyin. The six groups of subjects all showed typical small-worldness,and the differences between groups were not significant.3.The findings of group differences in brain network property indices.A total of 90 brain regions were analyzed for the differences in brain network local attribute indices between the five typical personality groups and the atypical personality group.Compared with the atypical personality group:(1)There was a difference in betweenness centrality of the typical Taiyang group in the left cuneus.(2)There were differences in the betweenness centrality of the right thalamus, and in the degree of the left inferior occipital gyrus in the typical Shaoyang group.(3)There were differences in the degree of the left occipital inferior gyrus, and nodal efficiency in the left middle occipital gyrus, right middle temporal gyrus and bilateral inferior temporal gyrus in the typical Shaoyin group,.(4)There were differences in the betweenness centrality, degree, and node efficiency of the right and left inferior temporal gyrus in typical Taiyin.(5)There was no statistical difference in nodal index between typical Yinyangheping group and atypical group.(6)The node efficiency in the right inferior temporal gyrus in the typical Shaoyang group was significantly higher than that in the typical Shaoyin group.4.Results of research on hubs between groups The hubs shared by the six groups were right supplementary motor area, medial and lateral cingulate gyrus, and bilateral superior temporal gyrus, which were the same as Taiyang group. The unique hub of typical Shaoyang group was in the left supplementary motor area. The typical Shaoyin group has unique hubs in bilateral insula. The unique hubs of typical Yin groups were in the Precentral gyrus.Conclusions:1.The perspective of personality in TCM was related to the attributes of nodes.Taiyang traits were positively correlated with left cuneate,Shaoyang traits were positively correlated with the right thalamus and the left supplementary motor area. The Shaoyin traits were negatively related to the mid-occipita gyrus,mid-temporal gyrus and inferior temporal gyrus. The above brain regions were related to the general personality traits, which showed that the five-pattern personality traits and common personality traits had a similar neurobiological basis.2.The six groups of subjects all exhibit typical small-worldness.3.The hubs difference between groups. The hubs shared by the six groups were right supplementary motor area, medial and lateral cingulate gyrus, and bilateral superior temporal gyrus. The brain regions above play an important role in maintaining advanced cognition, emotional expression and other psychological functions. The unique hub of typical Shaoyang group was in the left supplementaryed motion area, which coincided with the more moves characteristic of the typical Shaoyang people. The unique hubs of typical Shaoyang group were in the bilateral insula, which were consistent with the susceptibility of negative emotions. This study provided a neurobiological basis of personality traits of Five-pattern Personality Inventory.
