The corpus stores massive language resources. The academic community generally believes that it is the British scholar Mona Baker who started to study on translation phenomena from the perspective of corpus. With the rapid development of computer technologies, the study on corpus has achieved remarkable results, and a a large amount of corpus of different language combinations has been established both at home and abroad. However,as of now,the research on corpus is mainly concentrated on large corpora, and the research on small corpora in various professional fields lags behind. This thesis provides a case study on the translation project of the Basic Facts about the United Nations conducted by the DPI team of the Graduate Institute of Interpretation and Translation of Shanghai International Studies University and explores the application of bilingual parallel corpus in translation practice. This thesis introduces how the bilingual parallel corpus is used in the project, and concludes that the corpus can help translators to learn about background knowledge, analyze text features and formulate translation strategies, and also help translators to refer to collocation and sentence structure. However, there are some risks in using corpus, such as translation errors and outdated information. On this basis, the author proposes the processes and strategies of building a small bilingual parallel corpus.
