A Translation Project Report On Government Documents From The Perspective Of Communicative Translation

Government documents feature seriousness,accuracy,economy and conventional norms.It is the product of the official activities of the organs of the party and the government,enterprises and institutions which plays a special and communicative role in politics.Thus the translation of the government documents has a higher demand of translators.This thesis,based on the communicative translation theory put forward by Peter Newmark,is aimed at discussing how to improve the quality of government documents translation with case studies.The cases chosen in the paper are from the writer's translation practice materials of XX Foreign Affairs Office,including Letters of Intent for Cooperation,MoUs,government letters and speeches.The whole essay is composed of four chapters.The first chapter introduces the background,aims and significance of this project.The second chapter discusses the contents of the texts chosen in the project and analyzes these texts genres and gives the literature review.The third chapter presents the translation process including translation preparations,the theoretical framework,translation difficulties and translation strategies to explore the guiding function of communicative translation to government documents translation.The fourth chapter concludes the experience and lessons during the translation process.
