With the development of globalization,international communication becomes closer and closer.English plays an important role in international communication.Therefore,more and more people begin to touch the importance of learning English.But,students' ability of synthetic language can't meet the requirement of nowadays globalization.English reading teaching is one of the important processes in whole processes of English teaching,at the same time the effective post-reading activities have an active influence on students' ability of synthetic language.Thus,the voice of improving the efficiency of English reading teaching becomes louder and louder.The purpose of this paper is to investigate the current situation of the implementation of post-reading activities in two classes of a high school in Sichuan Province,and then use the methods of experimental research to try answering the following questions:(1)what are the major problems in current situation of post-reading activities design and implementation?(2)What's relation between effective post-reading activities and students' ability of synthetic language?(3)How teachers can design the effective post-reading activities? The purpose is to find the major problems of post-reading activities in English reading teaching,to put up with some effective strategies of the post-reading activities,to improve the efficiency of English reading teaching and to improve students' ability of synthetic language.Based on above questions,this paper adopted three kinds of instruments:literature review method,questionnaires investigation method and experimental research method.The first instrument is to study what has been done by former researchers.Through literature review,the author induced it to the following aspects:the explanation of reading and post-reading activities and so on,the designing ofprinciples and methods,the current situation and problems of post-reading activities and also the suggestions of designing and implement of post-reading activities.The second instrument is to investigate the current situation of the implementation of post-reading activities in senior high school.The last instrument is to adopt SPSS23.0 to make a comparative analysis the changes of students' means,standard deviation and the sig.(2-tailed)of listening comprehension,reading comprehension and the writing between the experimental class and the control class after the implementation of the post-reading activities.According to the above data to judge the influence of the effective post-reading activities.Through the questionnaire,the writer finds it exists some problems in post-reading activities implementation in senior high school:(1)the design of post-reading activities are not scientific enough;(2)students are not active enough to take in the post-reading activities and they need teachers' help in class;(3)in the stage of post-reading,student-oriented idea is not embodied totally and so on.Through the methods of experimental research,the writer finds that,to some extent,post-reading activities can improve students' ability of synthetic language.In other words,post-reading activities are effective and very important in English reading teaching.
