As one of the valuable resources,English video is gradually used by teachers in English teaching.The current studies mainly focus on the effectiveness and ways of applying video resources,but few authors explored the current utilization status of it in high school English teaching.This research is based on Dell’s "Cone of Experience" Theory,Situated Cognition Theory and The Second Language Acquisition Input Theory.Through the methods of questionnaire,interview and classroom observation,the author investigated the current situation of the students from four different classes in grade one,twelve English teachers and the English class of two classes in a high school in Chongqing to know the utilization status of English video resources.This paper has the following three research questions.First,the application status of English video resources in high school English teaching.Second,the problems of applying English video resources.Third,the suggestions for better using English video resources.Through investigation,the current use of English video resources in high school English teaching was known.By analyzing the data,the problems of using English video resources are found,including lack of understanding of English video resources in both teachers and students,little cooperation between teachers and students in the selection of English video resources,students’ insufficient "comprehensible language input",teachers’ low exploring and utilization of English video resources.In view of the above problems,based on the theoretical basis and the high school English curriculum standards(2017),the author come up with some advice,aiming at providing teachers with some ways to better use English video resources.The suggestions are as follows: students improve their learning ability to actively explore the value of English video resources,make full use of the network to broaden access to English videos.Teachers should focus on students’ demand to achieve cooperative exploitation ofresources,make clear the essence of English teaching and rationally make and use English video resources and organize diverse post-evaluation activities for developing student-oriented teaching.The school should increase investment in resources to optimize the use of English video resources,establish research teams to open up channels for sharing English video resources and regularly organize training for teachers to improve their information level.
