The storage of visual short-term memory systems involves the integration of features in various dimensions.Many researchers have conducted fruitful discussions on this,and found that changes in the characteristics of object-irrelevant dimensions interfere with the memory performance of the target dimension.Information is stored in units of integrated objects in visual working memory.However,the discovery of the fragile visual short-term memory,an emerging short-term memory system,provides another storage channel for the storage of information in the visual short-term memory phase.Fragile visual short-term memory is based on object and location-based specific storage.When a new visual stimulus(masking)appears in the same location and consists of the same object as the memory term stimulus,the information is completely eliminated and inaccessible,but has no effect on the storage of visual working memory,irrespective of dimensional changes.The disappearance of the irrelevant-change effect indicates that the irrelevant dimension of the object is stored in the fragile visual short-term memory.No studies have been conducted to directly observe and compare the storage of the object-independent dimensional features in the visual short-term memory system(visual working memory and fragile visual short-term memory)based on the irrelevant-change effect.This study will focus on the characteristics of two short-term memory storage systems,using the change awareness paradigm to investigate the effects of different masking types and different time intervals on the unrelated dimensional interference effects,in order to infer the storage location of the obj ect-independent dimensional features.This study consists of two parts:The first part of the study adopts the change awareness paradigm.Firstly,based on the storage characteristics of fragile visual short-term memory,mode masking is used as the interference material to investigate its influence on the irrelevant-change ef-fect,and then the irrelevant features are inferred in the visual short-term memory stage.Store(Experiment 1a).Secondly,the typical masking was used as the interference material.By setting the experimental comparison group between groups,the interference effects of the unrelated dimensions under the two masking types were compared to verify the results of the consolidation experiment la(Experiment lb).In the second part,by manipulating and controlling the time interval between the memory item and the masking item(ISI is divided into Oms and 150ms),the influence of different ISI on the interference effect of the unrelated dimension is further investigated,and the object-independent dimensional feature is stored in the vision working memory is also a fragile visual short-term memory for direct comparison.Through experiments,the study draws the following main conclusions:Different types of masking and time intervals affect the storage of visual objects in visual short-term memory systems,and object-independent dimensional features are stored in visual working memory rather than fragile visual short-term memory.
