Utopianism In Western Science Fiction From The Perspective Of Space And Time

Science fiction has these three elements:"time,space and imaginative technology".Imaginative technology is an exploration tool,while time and space are the dimensions for human beings to explore the unknown world.Although imaginative technology has attracted much attention in the theoretical research of science fiction,any science and technology is only a tool for science fiction exploration,and the space-time view has always determined the direction of human exploration.The concept of time and space not only determines the narrative style of science fiction,but also profoundly affects the expression of utopianism in science fiction.Understanding utopianism in western science fiction from the perspective of time and space is the most essential grasp of the ideological connotation of science fiction.From the point of view of time and space,this paper analyzes the influence of time and space on the development of western science fiction,and demonstrates how utopianism in western science fiction changes with the development of time and space.The main content of the article is divided into four parts:The first part reviews the development history of western utopianism,and analyzes the two sources of western utopianism from the perspective of time and space,and the two different utopianism formed under the influence of the two sources:the blueprint utopians with space as the core and millenarianism with time as the core;The second part mainly discusses utopianism in the western space travel science fiction.Under the influence of the space-centered concept of time and space,most of the western science fiction in this period took space travel as the theme of creation,and its expression of utopianism was mostly the blueprint utopians related to space and the anti-utopian derived from it.The third part mainly discusses the utopianism in the western time-travel science fiction.Under the historical background that the imagination space in the space dimension is continuously compressed and time is rediscovered,the creation theme of the western science fiction changes from space travel to time-travel,and its expression of utopianism also changes to millenarianism closely related to time.The fourth part mainly discusses the new contemporary changes of utopianism in western science fiction.With the development of the new wave movement of British science fiction literature,the monopoly of space travel and time travel in the creation of western science fiction themes was broken.People's understanding of space and time is no longer limited to the physical level.Thus,western new wave science fiction and cyberpunk science fiction put forward psychological space and time and network space and time respectively,which also ushered in new changes and development in utopianism in western science fiction.Through the above analysis and demonstration,this paper holds that the changes of utopianism in western science fiction with the development of time and space reflect the contradictions and conflicts of western utopianism itself,of which the most prominent is the reflexivity and fictionality of western utopianism.Due to the reflexivity of western utopianism,western science fiction presents a contradiction between utopianism and anti-utopianism under the influence of different time and space views.However,due to the fictionality,western science fiction falls into a conflict between reality and fiction under the influence of different time and space views.In addition,the change of cultural space-time view is also an important factor affecting utopianism in western science fiction.From space to time to space,the change of cultural space-time view makes utopianism in western science fiction have their own unique historical and cultural significance in different periods.Understanding utopianism in western science fiction from the perspective of time and space is a dual grasp of the "science" and "literariness" of western science fiction.No matter how good the science and technology publicity manual is,it will not become a science fiction literary work,because the latter often pays more attention to how the human beings trapped by science and technology can survive and develop better.Understanding utopianism in western science fiction from the perspective of time and space is of great significance for discussing this essential feature of science fiction.
