Critical reading is a kind of high-level reading activity,which requires readers to distinguish facts and opinions,clarify the author's intention,infer the real meaning hidden behind the words,and draw logical conclusions through prediction,analysis,questioning,inference,evaluation and other thinking activities.According to the instruction of the new curriculum standards and combined with the current high school English reading teaching,critical reading is an important way to cultivate critical thinking in reading teaching.However,at present,the teaching of English reading still focuses on the explanation of language knowledge points and rarely conducts critical reading teaching,which neglects the cultivation of students' critical thinking.As a result,students' reading skills and critical thinking ability cannot be well developed.This paper is guided by the critical discourse analysis theory and constructivism learning theory,aiming at answering the following two questions:1.What effects does Critical English Reading Teaching have on students' reading comprehension achievements?2.What effects does Critical English Reading Teaching have on students' Critical Thinking ability?Experimental method and questionnaire survey method are used in this study.The subjects were two parallel classes in Grade one of NO.2 senior high school in Yi Ning county of Xin Jiang.The experimental class adopted the critical reading teaching method and the control class adopted the normal teaching method.The data of the pre and post tests as well as questionnaires of the two classes were collected,and analyzed by SPSS 17.0.The results show that:1)The Teaching of Critical Reading is conducive to the improvement of students' English reading comprehension achievements.2)Critical Reading Teaching can promote the improvement of students' critical thinking ability,such as truth-seeking,self-confidence and maturity.The results above further verify the effectiveness of critical reading teaching for senior high school students to improve their reading ability and critical thinking ability.Therefore,it is of positive significance to carry out critical reading teaching in senior high school English teaching.This study provides reference for later study and reference for further research and promotion of critical reading,so that later researchers can better discuss and study in depth,so as to better improve students' reading ability and critical thinking ability.
