With the development of our country and the proposal of the Belt and Road Initiative,the exchanges between our country and the countries along the Belt and Road have become increasingly close and the demand for foreign language talents is also more urgent.The cultivation of foreign language talents can not be separated from the development of foreign language education.English teaching in senior high schools is the basis of training and reserving foreign language talents in the future.In the English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools(Experiments),it is pointed out that English teachers should strive to optimize students' English learning styles so that students can fully develop their learning potentials,form effective learning strategies and improve students' autonomous learning ability.However,there are still many unsatisfactory aspects of English learning for senior high school students.Based on a questionnaire and classroom observation,this research examines four science classes in Grade Two of Zhengzhou A Senior High School and finds that there are some problems in the English learning of senior high school students: a lack of interest in English learning,poor learning methods and habits,inactive learning attitude and poor classroom participation,poor independent learning ability.The main causes are as follows: the neglect of process evaluation,the neglect of students' role in the evaluation,and the unvaried evaluation form.What's more,teachers' teaching concept has not advanced with the curriculum standards,and the teaching methods can not meet the needs of students.Teachers do not pay enough attention to the cultivation of students' learning strategies and the students' emotions.Besides,the students are unable to persist in overcoming difficulties in their study,and they also lack confidence and intention to improve their learning methods.In order to improve the English learning effect of high school students,improving students' learning methods is the key.On the basis of teaching practice,this research puts forward suggestions on how to use mind mapping to improve senior high school students' English learning effect.Authorities in high schools should increase investment to improve teaching facilities,offer training programs and organize teaching competitions to qualify the teachers and promote inter-school exchanges for the teachers to learn from others' experience.Teachers should strengthen theoretical study to find better methods of teaching English through mind mapping,organize competitions to promote the cultivation of students' abilities.High school studentsshould improve their mind mapping drawing skills,learn how to apply mind mapping to improving their learning strategies and how to use mind mapping software on the Internet.Those suggestions provide reference for senior English teachers and related studies.
